Why does my Mini Cooper AC feel weak only in afternoon heat?

I've been a bit confused about something happening with my Mini Cooper lately and wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with it. In the mornings or during cooler parts of the day, the AC works completely fine and cools the car quite quickly. But in the afternoon when the sun is really strong, it suddenly doesn't feel as effective. The air still comes out cold but it feels weaker and takes longer to cool the cabin properly. I first thought maybe it's just normal because of the extreme weather here, but it's been happening quite often now so I started paying more attention to it. I haven't done any major AC servicing in a long time, so I'm wondering if that could be related.
